What is EMDR?

Healing the way
your brain was
designed to heal.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a clinically proven therapy for people who feel stuck — in old patterns, emotional reactions, or relationships they can't seem to move past no matter how hard they try.

Some experiences — big or small — get lodged in the brain in a way that keeps affecting how you feel and respond today, even when you know better. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR shifts things from the inside…out.

It's not about reliving the past. It's about finally releasing it.

🧠
APA-endorsed & research-backed Recognized by the American Psychological Association as a frontline treatment for PTSD and trauma.
💬
No need to relive every detail EMDR works differently than talk therapy — you won't have to narrate your trauma at length.
🌱
Lasting results, not just coping EMDR resolves the root source of distress — so relief is real, deep, and lasting.

Common Questions

Everything you want
to know first.

How many EMDR sessions will I need?
It depends on your history and goals. Some clients see meaningful change in 6–12 sessions. Complex trauma may take longer. Your therapist will give you an honest picture once you begin.
Do I have to talk through everything that happened?
No. EMDR doesn't require you to narrate trauma in detail. You'll identify memories and feelings, but deep re-telling is not how EMDR works — which is a genuine relief for many people.
Do you accept insurance?
We are an out-of-network practice and do not accept insurance directly. We do offer a limited number of sliding scale slots for those who qualify — these require an application and are re-authorized every 6 months.
Do you offer virtual EMDR sessions?
Yes. We offer telehealth EMDR for Texas residents using HIPAA-compliant platforms. It's just as effective as in-person for most clients.
What are EMDR Intensives?
EMDR Intensives are extended, focused sessions that compress months of weekly therapy into a concentrated format — often a half-day or full-day experience. They're ideal for those who want to move through the healing process more quickly, or who can't commit to weekly sessions. Ask our Care Coordinator if an Intensive might be right for you.
Is EMDR only for PTSD?
No — EMDR is highly effective for anxiety, depression, phobias, grief, low self-esteem, and many other challenges rooted in painful past experiences.
Do you only work with individuals?
Not at all. We work with individuals, couples, and families — whatever configuration best supports your healing. EMDR can be a powerful tool in couples work and family systems too.
Do you see children and teens?
Yes. In addition to adults, we work with preteens and teenagers. EMDR is highly effective for younger clients navigating anxiety, trauma, or difficult life transitions.
